They are not giant space potholes that you can easily stumble into, and you certainly don’t fall into them the same way you would a pothole. That’s why it’s called a black hole.īut they are not “holes” in the usual sense. Imagine my disappointment when I realized that’s not the case at all.īlack holes are singularities-infinitely dense places of zero radius with at least 3 M ☉ (solar masses) of star stuff-surrounded by an event horizon, inside of which gravity is so strong that even light cannot escape. Some of my favorite “images” of black holes used to be the ones that look like ripples in the fabric of space. Most use a great deal of artistic license. If you’re a science geek, you’ve no doubt seen tons of artists’ conceptions of black holes on the internet. In fact, this is the first ever image of a black hole, taken with an interferometer the size of the Earth. This leads you to the Meltwater District of the Hanging City.To those who don’t, it probably looks like a pretty unimpressive, blurry ring. There’s a small tunnel leading down in one of the snow islands. Turn around and face north - back at the ruins you just came from. Head to the far side of that water from where you’re standing. Below you there’s some water with tiny, snowy islands. Mobius Digital/Annapurna Interactive via Polygonįrom the script at the top of the north pole ruins, step to the right and find a gap in the wall. Northern Glacier entrance to Hanging City Location of the tunnel from the Northern Glacier to the Hanging City. Here, you’ll learn about the phantom moon and add it to your ship’s log. Instead, head to the ruin that’s directly on the planet’s north pole.Ĭlimb the stairs and jump the gap to read some more Nomai script. Placing the Ember Twin projection stone in the other pedestal - the one in the depression in the floor - will show you a hologram of Ember Twin, but you can’t do anything with it. Read about the warp tower anomalies and the research being done at the High Energy Lab along Ember Twin’s equator. Place the Ember Twin projection stone in the pedestal in front of the blank wall. Check the Nomai writing to learn about the warp tower and add it to your ship’s log.įollow the platform left, and then down to the floor below. There’s a broken elevator inside and a sign pointing down to the Hanging City. Stop just before the entrance for a note from Feldspar and some jetpack fuel. Take a look at the readings on the sensor just outside of the exit, and then make your way to the ruins just to the west. Mobius Digital/Annapurna Interactive via Polygonįrom the pad where the White Hole Station drops you, follow the spiraling path out. Northern Glacier // Brittle Hollow The ruins at the Northern Glacier. When Brittle Hollow rotates overhead, you’ll warp back to the north pole of the planet. Grab the Ember Twin projection stone from the shelf nearby, and stand in the middle of the room. Move the ball into either side of the W-shaped switch - it just starts the tower rotating - and head back up. Take the elevator down to the floor below. Use the ball to trigger the pentagonal switch, and drop down to the floor.Ĭheck the Nomai writing on the wall for an explanation about the station and its warp tower. Jetpack your way to it, and land on the gravity crystal tiling around the outside.įind the entrance, and drop through. Directly in front of you is the White Hole Station. The black hole will spit you out into deep space - out near the edge of the solar system. Mobius Digital/Annapurna Interactive via Polygon Black hole // White Hole Station The White Hole Station. In fact, it’ll take you to a new Nomai location and teach you about their teleporting technology.īelow, we’ll walk you through what happens when you fall in, and how to get back to Brittle Hollow and the Hanging City. While exploring Brittle Hollow in Outer Wilds, it’s only a matter of time before you fall into the black hole at the center of the planet.
